Meet the Author and Illustrator: Monika Marzec

Hi, I’m Monika—author, illustrator, teacher, and mum. If you’ve landed here, you’re probably a fellow book lover, a curious parent, a teacher, or someone who still believes in the magic of picture books. I’m so glad you’re here.

Books have always been part of my life, but it wasn’t until I became a mum that I truly understood the quiet power they hold. My daughter, now seven, is my biggest inspiration. Seeing the world through her curious eyes reminds me daily how imagination and stories help kids make sense of things - and how they often help adults do the same.

Working as an English and Spanish teacher keeps me closely connected to how children think, express themselves, and experience the world. It’s a daily reminder of the questions they ask, the emotions they feel, and the kinds of stories that truly capture their imaginations. That perspective is a huge part of what shapes the books I create.

I’ve had the joy of seeing language spark confidence in children, open doors, and build bridges between cultures. That love for language and storytelling led me to study in Dublin, Toledo, Madrid and Cairo - all places that expanded my love for language, opened my eyes to different ways of seeing the world, and taught me to greatly appreciate different cultures and people’s stories.

Travel is my other passion. Exploring new places - whether it’s sharing meals, learning local phrases, or observing everyday traditions - has helped me appreciate the many ways people live, celebrate, and connect. These experiences deepen my understanding of the world and often inspire the themes and heart behind my stories and illustrations.

Creating stories that make children smile, wonder, or feel seen is my mission. My style is whimsical, a little quirky, and always rooted in a sense of play. I hope when kids (and grown-ups!) open my books, they feel a spark of curiosity - maybe even the urge to create something of their own.

Thanks for stopping by. I’d love for you to follow along as I share the behind-the-scenes of my latest projects, travels, and doodles that turn into characters.
